What warm weather clothing are you craving?

October 1, 2009

Okay, so it’s the first day of October and there is a definite chill in the air (50 degrees this morning in NYC) and to my dismay I threw on a long sleeve printed top and a light jacket this morning. When looking through my closet all I wanted was chunky, comfy sweaters and cardigans, something my wardrobe is definitely lacking! I MUST add these items to my closet for the fall/winter, and quick!

What are you craving for the cooler temps? Are you in denial that it’s already October like I am?

Get Gossip Girl Style for Less: Serena

September 22, 2009

I was going gaga over Blake Lively’s (Serena’s) vest in last night’s episode of Gossip Girl, she looked so cool! From the pink tie-dye fringe vest, to the edgy fringe necklaces, I died! Turns out the vest is from a company called Chelsea Flower, but from the looks of it, it is nowhere to be found! Tear!

The Emmys: The Bold, The Beautiful and The Just Plain Bad

September 21, 2009

This might have been my fav of the night! LOVE the color and it was different…nothing like anything else on the carpet…

Bold colors were seen all over Red Carpet. Real statements being made with reds, purples, blues and metallics

Pale colors looked amazing also:

What were they thinking?

It was honestly hard for me to look at Leighton Meester, she took it all WAY too far…with the knotted shoulder pads, to the messy hair to the almost clown-like makeup…And as for Mila Kunis, that dress looks like it has eaten her alive, not a wise choice. OOOPS

Olay is on a Roll!

September 18, 2009

First off, I was literally jumping up and down when my first product assignment from Yahoo! Shine was delivered. I ripped open the box and was so excited to see what was inside. I’ve been seeing some serious age lines around my eyes lately and I’ve been meaning to pick something up to minimize this clear sign that I’m getting older, so this was perfect. I took a quick look at all 3 products and was most attracted to the “Olay Regenerist Anti-Aging Eye Roller” (who wasn’t). It’s certainly gimmicky, but I fell for it’s innovative look and put it to the test.

It was so entertaining to actually use the product. One (awkward) click and you are ready to apply. The cream that is dispensed from the 3 metal rollers feels cool on the skin and it was fun to massage my eyes (each one for 30 seconds), although it was a little messy…

I was having so much fun with it that my boyfriend joined in, no joke! He used it every night I did. Even though it was engaging, neither of us can really say it worked. So, do I recommend for a quick feeling of coolness on my skin and a fun product to use? Yes. But if you want serious results, I’d say try something else, especially since I find the price tag of $23 to be a tad expensive for a drugstore brand.

Get this look: Alexa Chung

September 17, 2009

I’ve been doing a lot of shopping lately, and I really need to slow down, but I’m finding so many great deals, they’re so hard to pass up! I bought a studded dress in H&M yesterday and happened to have purchased a boyfriend cardigan from Target a week or so ago (the sleeves roll up to show the pinstripe just like Alexa’s). When I saw this picture, I was sure she had been shopping with me!

Check out how to get this look for less!
Studded Dress, H&M, $49.99
You have to go to the actual store, H&M doesn’t have an online store- what’s the deal with that? Also, when I walked into the store they were handing out a buy 1, get 1 half off coupon- that’s half off ANYTHING in the store! If I were you I’d run there now! Sale goes until Sept 20.

Mossimo Black Boyfriend Blazer– was $29.99, now $24.99
Free People Fluke Ankle bootie – was $148, now $70

What’s the most you would pay for a pair of leggings?

September 15, 2009

Leggings are making a comeback in a big way this season, and I’m not just talking solid black here! There are so many options to choose from like animal prints, tie-dye, zipper detail, neon colors, textured, lace, jeweled, buttoned…the list goes on. But what makes 1 pair worth $100 and another worth just $10? Is it worth paying the bigger price for the bigger name or would you rather buy 10 pairs for the price of 1? What’s it worth to you?

What price would you pay to have your own personal shoe stylist?

August 28, 2009

My friend just told me about this new site founded by Kim Kardashian called ShoeDazzle. The website is kind of confusing at first, but once I sunk my teeth in, it’s acutally a pretty cool concept. You take a quick survey that shows you pictures of certain styles and asks what you like best. From this, once a month, Kim, along with her stylist friends choose 5 pairs of shoes they think fit your peronsal style best. From those 5 pairs, you get to choose 1 pair that will be shipped to you to keep. There is no additional charge for the shoes, your monthly $39 fee covers it all!

Things to keep in mind:

1) You can sign up and scope out the scene for a while before you actually make a commitment. You are not charged until you make your first selection…so you can keep getting shoe options emailed to you for a few months before you take the plunge.

2) If the size that’s sent to you doesn’t fit, you can exchange for no fee

3) You can return items and get your $39 back, but there is a $6 restocking fee

4) You pay month by month, so if you want to cancel, you can cancel at anytime

5) Also, if you decide you don’t want a pair of shoes one month, you can “skip a month,” but you must decide this between the 1st and 5th of the month

I’m a little skeptical about this process, but I’m thinking about trying it out to see what the deal is.

Is this something you’d be interested in? $39 a month for shoes? Is that worth the investment for you?

Check them out on facebook, they seem to be getting great feedback!

What’s in your makeup case?

August 12, 2009
Clinique at ShopStyle

I was getting ready for work this morning and started to go through all of my makeup. I have so many random things going on in my makeup case and realized that I’ve tried out all different types of cosmetics, everything from Revlon to Chanel, and I always end up going back to these reliable items below. You should definitely give them a try!

Clinique SuperPower Double Face Makeup just matches my skin to a T. It’s a powder/foundation combo, so it’s light on the face, but still gives you great coverage where you need it.

Clinique Soft-Pressed Powder Blusher – The color lasts all day and it adds the much needed color to my cheeks.

Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara – This mascara makes SUCH a difference, especially on those mornings that you could have used a few extra hours of shut eye. It makes my eyes look WAY bigger than they are and adds that extra pop to my face.

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder – Adds the perfect “sun-kissed” glow! Doesn’t give you that orange, fake tan look, and last all day.

MAC Eye Shadows are my favorite! They have so many different colors to choose from and they are priced fairly, so it’s fun to play around with different combinations. “Da Bling” and “Star Violet”* are my go-to colors. *Note: Star Violet is more of a purple, doesn’t look like it on the site, but trust me!

MAC Eye Liner – I just bought this purple eyeliner (“Rave”) for a little twist, I’m loving it! But for day-to-day I use black (“Smolder”).

What do you use for this daily ritual? Do you switch it up or do you stick to what works? Do you buy based on price or quality (or both)? Do you wear makeup at all? What’s in your beauty bag?

Finally! A home for your favorite pieces!

July 20, 2009

I own so much costume jewelry. Long necklaces, funky rings and fun earrings. It’s always been hard to store all of these pieces without them getting all tangled together. I’ve been looking around and have found some really creative ways to organize all of these special accessories. They also add some unexpected charm to your room.

Lace Pedestal Jewelry Stand -$18

Little Birch Jewelry Stand -$20

Yes Frills Wall Jewelry Holder -$24

Also, you know the plastic divider box you used to store all your beads in when you were younger? I use each separate section for a different necklace, pair of earrings or ring. This has not steered me wrong yet. It’s actually the perfect jewelry box and the cost is minimal ($17).

If you want to spice it up a bit add some jewels or cut outs from a magazine to the cover…I’m telling you, you’re going to LOVE this.

Do you have any haircut horror stories?

July 17, 2009

After much procrastination (and harassment from a co-worker that they were WAY too long), I got my bangs cut. Getting a bang cut is not as easy as one may think. It is a very delicate balance. If they don’t cut enough, you will have to go back next week again for yet another bang cut. If they cut too much, your bangs might end up looking like Peggy on Mad Men (see below), and I sure don’t want that!! The bang cut yesterday ended up being one of the best I’ve gotten since I’ve stepped foot in the city. Who would have thought that the hair salon I’ve been staring at through my work window for 2 years would be “the one.”

Anyways, how often do you go to get a bang/hair cut? Do you stick with one person or do you go with the most convenient at the moment? Do you trust when some else has those scissors in their hands or are you as skeptical as I am of their expertise? How much do you pay? Have any horror stories to tell?
