What’s in your makeup case?

I was getting ready for work this morning and started to go through all of my makeup. I have so many random things going on in my makeup case and realized that I’ve tried out all different types of cosmetics, everything from Revlon to Chanel, and I always end up going back to these reliable items below. You should definitely give them a try!

Clinique SuperPower Double Face Makeup just matches my skin to a T. It’s a powder/foundation combo, so it’s light on the face, but still gives you great coverage where you need it.

Clinique Soft-Pressed Powder Blusher – The color lasts all day and it adds the much needed color to my cheeks.

Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara – This mascara makes SUCH a difference, especially on those mornings that you could have used a few extra hours of shut eye. It makes my eyes look WAY bigger than they are and adds that extra pop to my face.

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder – Adds the perfect “sun-kissed” glow! Doesn’t give you that orange, fake tan look, and last all day.

MAC Eye Shadows are my favorite! They have so many different colors to choose from and they are priced fairly, so it’s fun to play around with different combinations. “Da Bling” and “Star Violet”* are my go-to colors. *Note: Star Violet is more of a purple, doesn’t look like it on the site, but trust me!

MAC Eye Liner – I just bought this purple eyeliner (“Rave”) for a little twist, I’m loving it! But for day-to-day I use black (“Smolder”).

What do you use for this daily ritual? Do you switch it up or do you stick to what works? Do you buy based on price or quality (or both)? Do you wear makeup at all? What’s in your beauty bag?

Finally! A home for your favorite pieces!

July 20, 2009

I own so much costume jewelry. Long necklaces, funky rings and fun earrings. It’s always been hard to store all of these pieces without them getting all tangled together. I’ve been looking around and have found some really creative ways to organize all of these special accessories. They also add some unexpected charm to your room.

Lace Pedestal Jewelry Stand -$18

Little Birch Jewelry Stand -$20

Yes Frills Wall Jewelry Holder -$24

Also, you know the plastic divider box you used to store all your beads in when you were younger? I use each separate section for a different necklace, pair of earrings or ring. This has not steered me wrong yet. It’s actually the perfect jewelry box and the cost is minimal ($17).

If you want to spice it up a bit add some jewels or cut outs from a magazine to the cover…I’m telling you, you’re going to LOVE this.

Do you have any haircut horror stories?

July 17, 2009

After much procrastination (and harassment from a co-worker that they were WAY too long), I got my bangs cut. Getting a bang cut is not as easy as one may think. It is a very delicate balance. If they don’t cut enough, you will have to go back next week again for yet another bang cut. If they cut too much, your bangs might end up looking like Peggy on Mad Men (see below), and I sure don’t want that!! The bang cut yesterday ended up being one of the best I’ve gotten since I’ve stepped foot in the city. Who would have thought that the hair salon I’ve been staring at through my work window for 2 years would be “the one.”

Anyways, how often do you go to get a bang/hair cut? Do you stick with one person or do you go with the most convenient at the moment? Do you trust when some else has those scissors in their hands or are you as skeptical as I am of their expertise? How much do you pay? Have any horror stories to tell?

The Perfect Gift to Give and Receive: Meaningful Jewelry

July 16, 2009

I love jewelry that makes a statement. Jewelry that when given as a gift tells the receiver what they mean to you. These charms from Max and Chloe just take my breath away. Making declarations such as “Lucky in Love” with a horseshoe, rose gold heart, and a pearl drop…could anything else say “I love you” better than that? These pieces speak of peace, love, and happiness and are just GORGEOUS. Take a peak and snatch a few for those special people in your life.

It doesn’t get any more rugged than this!

July 14, 2009

Ohhh there is nothing better than throwing on your favorite boots once the temperature cools down. No, I’m not hoping for the end of summer by any means, I actually HATE the cold, but I LOVE the look of a brand new pair of leather boots. This new vintage line from Nine West has really caught my attention. I allow myself one expensive pair of boots each year and I think I’ve found them already. This pair right here are so gorgeous; I think I’m blushing. I love the dark natural leather look and the side grommet details. I’m going to wait it out for a little, maybe until they go on sale or perhaps a friendly coupon comes my way, but boyyy have I got my eye on these. You can pre-order from this collection now or wait to spend the big bucks until absolutely necessary like I will. How cool is this collection? What’s first on your to-buy list?

Can’t get enough of mini-florals!

July 10, 2009

I would not consider myself a “girly-girl” by any means, but there is something so appealing about these mini-floral dresses and tops. They make me feel so feminine and innocent. It’s fun to play that role every now and then, don’t you think? They also don’t require very much work…throw on the dress or top, add a solid flip flop and you’re golden. Simple, easy, flowy style…can’t ask for anything better than that!

Are you into florals? Is this your normal style or are you surprised to be loving this also?

Loving Chic Denim Dresses (Shocking, I know!)

July 7, 2009

I am far from the girl who would ever entertain the idea of a denim outfit. The thought of a matching jean top and jean bottom actually makes me physically nauseus. I’ve been hearing through the grapevine about denim dresses and didn’t even think to check them out in the fear of what I may see, but my curiosity peaked and what I discovered wasn’t all that bad. These dresses are really cute! Accessorize them with some cute sandles and a necklace and you have the perfect get-up. I just purchased the tube top one from Forever 21 (see below) and got compliments all day…maybe it’s time you try it out!

Would you dare wear this debatable trend (can we even call it that)?
